Two guys who have a lot to say about paramedicine

 

Rich BeebeRichard Beebe is an EMS Educator, Paramedic Clinician and an EMS Author. Starting his EMS career in 1974 he has always maintained a continuous practice: first as a volunteer EMT and as a Paramedic for the Guilderland Police Dept. He has over two and half decades of teaching experience in all aspects of EMS: from EMT Instructor to Paramedic Program Director. He is owner of MedicThink LLC, an education and consulting firm, Associate Director of Training and Education at Mohawk Ambulance in upstate New York. He is also an Instructor in the Vermont Technical College paramedic program. He was a technical section lead for the 2009 EMS Educational Standandards. He was active at the state level participating in several subcommittes of the New York State EMS Council He served on the board of directors for the National Association of EMS Educators and the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for EMS.

Tragically, Rich succombed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash in 2016 and answered his last call on June 5, 2016. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of his family, his students and his colleagues.

 

Dr. Myers is an EMS Physician and Educator with a 30 year background in emergency services with 28 as an EMS educator. He started in EMS in 1988 in the Capital District of New York volunteering for his college ambulance and a local community ambulance service. He began teaching in 1990 and ran the EMT-Basic course in Rensselaer County for several years before leaving to attend medical school. He also served as a Deputy EMS Coordinator for four years, responding to multi-ambulance and multi-agency incidents. He has worked as a paramedic for paid, combination paid-volunteer and volunteer agencies in urban and rural environments. Dr. Myers attended medical school at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University at Buffalo. After residency, he completed a two-year EMS Fellowship and completed a Masters in Educational Technology through the University at Buffalo. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services and was awarded Fellowship status in NAEMSP in 2016.

Dr. Myers served on the faculty in the Emergency Medicine residency program for eight years and was the EMS Fellowship Director for four years. During this time, he served as the Associate System EMS Medical Director at the Erie County Medical Center and was an active member of the physician response team. He served as Associate Medical Director for Rural Metro Medical Services of Western New York. In 2010 he was the founding director for the Behling Simulation Center, an interprofessional simulation center at the University at Buffalo. He served as the EMS medical director for Gaston County, NC and currently is the Emergency Department Director at the Upper Allegheny Health System in southwestern NY. He has authored several articles, books and multimedia publications, including the three-volume Professional Paramedic textbook series and Techniques in Airway Management DVD series. He is an international lecturer, speaking on a wide variety of clinical, educational, and operational topics.
